WASTE MANAGEMENT SOLUTION
1.
Municipal Solid Waste Audit
Waste Audit is required to get the specific information about the waste generated at a specific location or geographical area. The audit process helps us to understand the problem related to the waste generated based on which the solutions can be provided for effective management of the waste generated. The solid waste generated can be characterized into various types according to the materials such as
1. Paper
2. Plastic
3. Glass
4. Fibers
5. Kitchen or Food Waste
6. Yard Waste
7. E-waste
8. Other wastes (Inert solids, construction waste and contaminated wastes )
We conduct survey and collect waste samples to measure the quality and quantity of waste generated. The qualitative and quantitative data is collected from concerned sources and stakeholders. The information collected is analysed and report is prepared based on the information collected. We have team of experts to conduct the waste audit process and recommend waste management solutions based on the solid waste generated.
2. Waste Handling and Management
Waste generated should be managed by trained waste handlers and disposed properly to mitigate Green House Gases and other pollution generated otherwise.
‘Waste Reduction Programme’ - Scientific Solution to Municipal Solid Waste
‘Waste Reduction Programme’ which basically facilitates the integration of informal sector waste workers into a formalized system managed by our skilled staff. We organize collection of Municipal Solid Waste by using methods such as doorstep collection or community bin collection service.
GSS runs a “Waste reduction” program which basically facilitates the integration of informal sector waste workers into a formalized system managed by its skilled staff. We have team of trained waste handlers to collect and manage waste. We promote recycling by segregation of waste and channelizing the same into recycling sector.
A. Process of Waste Collection Service
We organize collection of Municipal Solid Waste by using methods such as doorstep collection or community bin collection service. Collection is done regularly at pre-informed schedule or by acoustic announcement.
The process of waste management is carried out through collection, segregation, transportation and recycling of recyclable waste. Waste is handled and managed from source point to end point, by streamlining it to a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF).
B. Time and Duration of Waste Collection Service
We start waste collection service at 0800 Hrs daily during summer and rainy seasons (1st March-31 October) and 0830 Hrs during winter season (1st November- 28 February). The waste collection will end by 1100 Hrs. Flexibility of 30 minutes is required for proper waste collection on holidays and during the festivals.
C. Transportation
The waste collected from the houses is taken to a common area ‘Temporary Collection Point’ and later loaded into a mechanised vehicle or transported on pedal rickshaw outside the premises depending on the amount of garbage generated in the premises. The temporary collection point is cleared once in a day.
The collected garbage is transported to ‘Material Recovery Facility’ outside the premises (location is identified and constructed) after visiting the site of garbage generation.
D. Segregation of Waste
The collected waste is segregated and categerised ‘Dry’ and ‘Wet’. The dry waste is channelized to the recycling system and wet waste is composted or fed to animals in animal farms. Inert waste and other non-usable waste is dumped in the municipality designated sites or landfill.
The following flowchart shows the proposed system of disposal of the municipal solid waste collected from the residential/ commercial premises.
SOCIAL, ECONOMIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS OF WASTE REDUCTION PROGRAMME
Global Sanitation and Other Services integrates informal waste collectors for doorstep waste collection.
A.
Social Benefits
Integration of informal waste pickers.
Reduction in occupational health hazards to waste pickers/collectors
Improvement of livelihood status of waste collectors
B. Economic And Environment Benefits
Waste Pickers get constant income as long as they collect waste from points of waste generation or community bins.
Waste going to landfill is reduced. Every Waste picker converts about 60-80 Kg of waste into resource by channelizing waste to recycling system.
Cost of transportation of huge quantity of waste to landfill site is saved.
Green house gas is mitigated, thus preventing lots of pollutants being released into the air. Water and Soil pollution is reduced through proper waste management solutions.
Summary of Deliverables for waste collection and management process:
a. Waste Collectors: As per requirement (common calculation is one waste picker for a group of 250 households)
b. Waste Collection Time: 0800 Hrs to 1100 Hrs
c. Uniforms to each waste collector
d. Identity Card to each individual deployed by company
e. Mechanised vehicle/ pedal rickshaw for waste transportation to Material Recovery Facility
We assure our clients of our best quality of service with punctuality.
